Technology has always been at the forefront of our approach at Footlabs. When the company was formed in 2008, we were one of only a few to truly utilise the full power of CAD Cam technology. We’re still pushing boundaries in this area today by working with, and introducing new, equipment that improves the quality of our products and the efficiency of our service.
Our Process
Scanning
3D scanners increasingly form the basis of how we capture the planter surface of the foot in our clinics. The beauty of the system is that it allows a seamlessly accurate scan of the foot, whatever its position, in a matter of seconds. The data can be verified immediately and viewed to ensure it is correct. If needed, recapture is easily made with just a few clicks of a button.
This new method allows data to be sent instantly to our lab where work can begin the same day. This removes the need for additional transport costs, reduces environmental impact and improves delivery times.
Modelling
The modelling software we’ve invested in at Footlabs is extremely powerful. The magnitude of manipulation features it makes possible allows our technicians to perform tasks such as:
- Fore foot and rear foot posting
- Site specific pads/reliefs
- Neurophysiological rectifications
- Accurate shoe grading and template import facility
Our software also enables us to input additional information like pressure measurements alongside digital images of the customer’s feet. This gives us a long term permanent record which reveals evidence of any change to the foot over time. It also allows accurate repeat prescriptions.
3D Printing
This exciting new phase of our business is one we are currently exploring! Machining orthoses with desktop cryogenics, or using an open-source ‘3D printer’ that can replicate orthoses and also itself, may seem like the stuff of science fiction. But these technologies are on the verge of being viable in our field, and Footlabs intend to be at forefront of employing this ground-breaking technology!
