Footlabs Orthotics uses the most advanced CAD/CAM technology to produce high speed accurate foot orthotics. Our Cad/Cam system works in three stages scanning, modelling and milling.
The data acquisition gives a highly accurate and detailed digital model of the patients foot either by scanning the foot directly or by scanning a foam impression box at the workshop location. The two types of scanners we use are a laser portable scanner for capturing the customer’s data on site and a structured light scanner for capturing data from foam impression boxes.
Footlabs CAD system is an ‘open interface’ with the ability to accept generic scan files from most 2D and 3D scanners available to the market. This enables us to work with customers who currently have their own scanners.
Once the customer’s data has been captured it is then transferred to the modelling software. It is here where modifications can be made according to the patient’s prescription.
Footlabs modeling software is extremely powerful, enabling a magnitude of manipulation features for performing tasks like:
- Fore foot and rear foot posting
- Site specific pads/reliefs
- Neurophysiological rectifications
- Accurate shoe grading and template import facility
- Bespoke pad manufacturing to specification
Our software also enables us to input additional information like pressure measurements and digital images of the customer’s feet giving a long term permanent record that allows evidence of any change to the customer and also allows accurate repeat prescriptions.
After the Insole has been modelled it is transferred to a compatible 3 axis carver to be milled. The carver, cuts directly into the material required for the insole and is accurate to 0.3mm, giving a smooth high quality finish that does not need any additional manual work. We have the capabilities of milling the following materials:
- Low, medium, high and dual density EVA
- Low and high density Plasterzote
- PU foam
- High density resins
With the extensive capabilities our system, we are able to produce an extremely accurate, high quality, truly bespoke product. Manufactured from a wide scope of materials with repeatability that is guaranteed time after time.
